Free Software Magazine held published an interview with Fuat Kircaali who is the CEO of Sys-Con, LinuxWorld's publisher, about this incident. i was reading it, fairly unimpressed with Fuat's general disconnect, and then i came upon this jaw dropper of a bombshell about half way through:
"What does ethics have anything to do with professional reporting and journalism?" - Fuat Kircaali
that pretty much sums up the problem with today's publishers, now doesn't it?
**sigh**

Agreed.

You capitalized several terms there. Friends don't let friends use capital letters, so I thought I'd point it out. I'm sure your local chapter of MASK (mothers against shift keys) will have a meeting you can go to.
Well, you can look at it another way - Pamela has won, spectacularly. This lady has, through decent journalism and investigation, been almost single-handedly responsible for putting SCO and others under such psychological pressure that they now dare not write anything. I have really admired the whole thing and watching it happen. The victory has been so absolutely total that the sort of journalism that people have come up with isn't a suprise. Now that the editorial staff are appalled and are leaving, it's the end. Ethics are always going to go out of the window when you're deperate, and that's what that was all about.
I just wonder how many times companies like Novell and Red Hat have been asked about indemnification and legal worries recently. I'm wagering never now, and that's down to Groklaw and Pamela as the absolute root cause.
Companies like Red Hat, Novell and others are currently making millions from Linux and open source software and I just hope they realise the contribution Pamela and Groklaw has made. Anyone who uses Linux in any way or open source software, especially to make profit, owes her a huge debt.
A million cheers for Pamela and Groklaw!
