tonight i found a place in town that plays real blues. hallelujah.

Where is it? I'm back in England now, but I'll return to Calgary in the Spring.
the vintage chophouse on 11th ave and 3rd st sw.
it's divided into a restaurant on one side and an upscale bar on the other. it's wasn't generally my type of crowd (a little too much suit 'n expensive dress, not enough blue in the colar) but the people were nice, the drinks were decent, service superb, prices just fine and the music was great.
they do jazz some nights as well, so i recommend phoning ahead and finding out what's up on a given night.
sadly, the blues scene in calgary has just taken a horrible beating over the last few years. jazz/blues bars don't make all that much money apparently, but they attract good sized crowds and help give an area a certain artsy feeling about it. which in turn invites in the gentrifiers who do their best to ensure it's not economically feasible for the blues to stay. *sigh* =(
